Talya Williams (Schenectady, N.Y.) and junior
Elizabeth Stirling (Wantagh, N.Y.) of the Pioneers' women's cross country team ran to record-breaking times Saturday at the LIU Post Invitational, crossing in first and second, respectively.
Averaging an under six-minute mile, Williams set a blistering pace underneath the overcast skies. The freshman harrier came in at 18:12.27, with Stirling finishing 30 seconds behind her. The Wantagh native recorded a time of 18:42.08 to complete the 1-2 sweep for the Pioneers. Stirling held the initial program record for a five-kilometer race on any course, a mark which she set last season.

Lauren Hoffman (Melville, N.Y.) completed the five-kilometer race in 13th (19:27.70), while senior
Shaylyn Stehl (Wantagh, N.Y.) clocked a 19:36.28, which was good for 17th place. Rounding out the green and gold's results were senior
Brooke Rozea (Syosset, N.Y.) in 41st (20:45.50) and red-shirt junior
Jessica Wiking (Farmingdale, N.Y.) in 62nd (21:35.71).
In the men's race, red-shirt sophomore
Mike Scott (Fultonville, N.Y.) was the top Pioneer runner with an eighth-place finish (25:42.94). Junior
Steven Arnone (Staten Island, N.Y.) clocked a 27:24.66, good for 35th overall. Finishing behind Arnone was freshman
Ryan Gioe (Huntington Station, N.Y.), who placed 40th with a time of 27:49.75. Sophomore
Tyler McGarvey (Babylon, N.Y.) (28:15.39) and graduate student
Joseph Lasher (Seaford, N.Y.) (29:10.33) wrapped up the ledger for the Pioneers.
The women finished the invitational as the top team among all Division II programs. LIU Post was third overall behind Fordham and Wagner. Meanwhile, the men was sixth out of 14 squads on the afternoon.
The Pioneers will travel to Boston, Mass. for their next meet on Saturday, Sept. 27. Both the men's and women's cross country teams will take part in the Codfish Bowl at Franklin Park.
