OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. (Sept. 27, 2014) - An offensive outburst in the second half propelled the LIU Post women's soccer team to a 3-0 victory over East Coast Conference rival NYIT in Old Westbury on Saturday.
The Pioneers (6-1, 3-0 ECC) have now won six straight games after dropping their 2014 season opener.
LIU Post scored all three of its goals in the latter half, the first two of which were by senior
Lauren Bellone (West Islip, N.Y.). The third came in the final 10 minutes of action as freshman
Alex Lynn (Sydney, Australia) got her second collegiate goal.
In the opening 45 minutes of play, the green and gold owned a 7-1 shot advantage and a 4-1 edge in corner kicks. The Bears (1-5-1, 0-3-1 ECC) did make four saves to keep the game scoreless. Overall, sophomore goalie
Hreffie Agnarsdottir (Reykjavik, Iceland) turned aside two shots to preserve her fourth clean sheet on the year.
Bellone collected her first marker in the 66th minute when she re-directed a shot into the net. Less than four minutes later, the West Islip native netted her second of the match on a header over the keeper's head, giving the Pioneers a 2-0 cushion. In the 81st minute, Lynn put one into the far side for the 3-0 lead.
Bellone led LIU Post's offense with six shots (five SOG). Junior
