ALBANY, N.Y. (Oct. 17, 2015) - In their final tune-up before the East Coast Conference Championships, the LIU Post men's and women's cross country teams finished ninth at the University at Albany Invitational on Saturday.
For the women, sophomore
Talya Williams (Schenectady, N.Y.) continued to etch her name in the Pioneers' record book. She recorded a 26th-place time of 18:51.3, which ranks sixth all-time for a 5k in program history. Senior
Elizabeth Stirling (Wantagh, N.Y.) clocked a 19:20.1, good for 39th place.
Sophomore
Lauren Hoffman (Melville, N.Y.) came in 66th, crossing at 20:42.3. Graduate
Brooke Rozea (Syosset, N.Y.) and freshman
Kaitie Schillaci (Albany, N.Y.) individually placed 74th (21:33.0) and 79th (21:56.3) to cap the scoring for LIU Post.
Red-shirt junior
Mike Scott (Fultonville, N.Y.) paved the way for the men's side, clocking a 31st-place run of 26:31.3 in the 8k. Sophomores
Thomas Flynn (Smithtown, N.Y.) and
Ryan Gioe (Huntington Station, N.Y.) followed in 52nd (27:25.0) and 59th place (27:54.1), respectively.
Junior
Tyler McGarvey (Babylon, N.Y.) trailed closely behind Gioe, finishing 61st with a time of 28:00.4. Red-shirt senior
Steven Arnone (Staten Island, N.Y.) added a 67th-place showing (28:30.6) for the green and gold.
Head Coach
Pat Slevin and the Pioneers are back at it next Saturday (Oct. 24) at the ECC Championships at LIU Post. The men's race will begin at 10:30 a.m., while the women's race is slated to start at 11:30 a.m.
