No. 10 Men's Soccer Downs Daemen, 8-2

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 25, 2015) - The 10th-ranked LIU Post men's soccer team erupted for an 8-2 win over East Coast Conference rival Daemen College on Sunday at Pioneer Soccer Park.

The Pioneers (11-1-2, 8-0 ECC) now remain unbeaten in their last 11 matches and have outscored their last three opponents by an 18-6 margin.

The offense got going early, as senior forward Matias Ruiz (Southampton, N.Y.) scored one of his two goals in the 19th minute after kicking a loose ball away from the diving keeper.

Then, in the 23rd minute, sophomore midfielder Harry Pearse (Berkshire, London, England) netted one of his two markers. Pearse loaded up for a big shot from the top of the box that he tucked inside the right post.

In the first half, LIU Post outshot Daemen (2-11-1, 0-7-1 ECC), 6-3. Things were different in the second half.

Pearse and Ruiz notched their second tallies of the afternoon in the 48th and 53rd minute, respectively, before the Wildcats got on the board in the 64th minute.

From there, senior midfielder Per Forgaard (Stavanger, Norway), junior forward Johann Kristjansson (Reykjavic, Iceland) and sophomore forward Toby Ilomuanya (South Orange, N.Y.) combined for four unanswered goals, two of which were by Ilomuanya, to make it an 8-1 game.

In net, senior keeper Kevin LaBarbera (Miller Place, N.Y.) made four saves to earn his second win of the season.

Head Coach Andreas Lindberg and the Pioneers are back in action on Wednesday (Oct. 28), when they host Molloy College in an ECC battle at Pioneer Soccer Park. The opening kick is slated for noon.
