Field Hockey Falls in 2015 Finale at Franklin Pierce, 2-1
Box Score RINDGE, N.H. (Oct. 30, 2015) - The LIU Post field hockey team closed out the 2015 season Friday with a 2-1 overtime loss to Franklin Pierce University in a Northeast-10 Conference tilt at Sodexo Field.
It was the fifth time this season that the Pioneers (10-8, 6-6 NE-10) have played an overtime contest, the last four of which have come on the road.
Though senior forward
Keliann Margiotta (Sewell, N.J.) had a pair of early-scoring chances for the visitors, LIU Post and Franklin Pierce (10-8, 5-7 NE-10) were scoreless after one half of play.
In the latter 35-minute stanza, the Pioneers outshot the Ravens by an overwhelming 10-1 count. However, Franklin Pierce made its one opportunity count.
More than midway through the half, junior midfielder Kenady Kelly (Plymouth, N.H.) opened the scoring, as she put back a rebound to stake the hosts to a 1-0 lead with 13:39 left in regulation.
LIU Post responded late though to force overtime. In the 68th minute, freshman forward/midfielder
Emily Miller (Bridgewater, N.J.) notched the equalizer on a shot from the top of the circle, off a penalty corner.
In the extra session, Kelly struck again, tallying the game-winner for the Ravens. With less than two minutes remaining in the period, she put a loose ball past LIU Post junior goaltender
Ericka Parks (Nesconset, N.Y.) to end it.
The Pioneers owned a 15-7 advantage in shots and an 8-6 edge in penalty corners in the contest. Between the pipes, Parks made three saves in the season finale.
