SPARKILL, N.Y. (Oct. 31, 2015) - The LIU Post women's soccer team defeated St. Thomas Aquinas College, 3-0, in its 2015 regular-season finale at Spartan Field on Saturday.
The Pioneers (14-2-2, 6-1-2 ECC) used a pair of first-half goals and solid goalkeeping in the second half to pick up their seventh-straight victory.
In the first 45 minutes of action, junior forward
Julia Backman (Morsil, Sweden) netted a pair of goals to spark the LIU Post attack.
Her first marker, in the 27th minute, came off a shot from about 12 yards out. The play was set up by a pass from freshman forward
Andrea Huntzinger (Stockholm, Sweden).
Less than 10 minutes later, sophomore forward
Klara Berggren (Stockholm, Sweden) and Backman connected for the tally.
The Pioneer defense held the Spartans (5-11, 2-7 ECC) to just two shots in the opening session.
In the latter half, senior forward
Susanne Vistnes (Randaberg, Norway) headed a
Katie LaManna (Smithtown, N.Y.) corner into the mesh in the 60th minute, capping the afternoon's scoring.
Between the pipes, junior keeper
Felicia Orderud (Gothenburg, Sweden) made two second-half saves to earn the win. Freshman
Hillevi Eklow (Väröbacka, Sweden) stopped one shot in her first collegiate appearance.
