BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 9, 2015) - The LIU Post field hockey team held on Friday for a 2-1 win against Lindenwood University in non-conference action at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium.
Scoreless after one half of play, sophomore defender
Grace Ilias (Oakville, Ontario, Canada) kept the game tied early in the latter session, as she blocked a Chloe Bell (Campbell, Calif.) shot from heading into the unguarded cage.
Freshman forward/midfielder
Emily Miller (Bridgewater, N.J.) eventually broke the stalemate for the Pioneers (6-5) in the 45th minute. Miller registered her second goal of 2015, upon pushing a shot past Lions' (5-5) senior goaltender Victoria Gil (Toms River, N.J.), to give the hosts the lead.
Then, in the 57th minute, LIU Post added an insurance tally. Senior forward
Keliann Margiotta (Sewell, N.J.) put back her own rebound off a blocked shot to widen the Pioneers' advantage to 2-0.
Lindenwood later cut the deficit in half, and nearly evened the score in the final minute, but junior goalie
Ericka Parks (Nesconset, N.Y.) sprawled to make a save on Karlie Quinn (Huntingtown, Md.) to deny the Lions.
Parks finished with a game-high six saves on the afternoon. Her counterpart, Gill, made four saves for Lindenwood.
Head Coach
Raenee Savin and her LIU Post squad return to action Wednesday (Oct. 14), when they travel to New Haven, Conn. for a 6 p.m. contest at Northeast-10 Conference foe Southern Connecticut State University.
