OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. (Nov. 10, 2015) - On Tuesday night, the LIU Post women's volleyball team closed out the road portion of its 2015 schedule with a 3-0 loss (22-25, 22-25, 22-25) to East Coast Conference rival New York Institute of Technology at Recreation Hall.

The match was a see-saw affair, as it featured a combined 21 tied scores and 13 lead changes. As a result, the Pioneers dipped to 20-9 overall and 8-6 in ECC play, whereas the Bears improved to 22-5 and 9-5 against league opposition.

In the first set, LIU Post led 17-14 on an Analise Austin (Honolulu, Hawaii) kill, until a 6-0 spurt by NYIT put the hosts in front (20-17). Senior middle blocker Kate Brock (River Edge, N.J.) slammed down three kills in the run.

That proved to be all the Bears needed in taking the opening set. The Pioneers managed to cut the deficit to two points on four separate occasions down the stretch, but their Northern Boulevard foes won the first game by a 25-22 count.

Trailing 4-2 early in the second set, LIU Post reeled off a 12-3 streak to grab a 14-7 advantage. Senior setter/right-side hitter Monica Amador (Cedar Park, Texas) got things started with back-to-back service aces and capped it off with a solo block.

NYIT fought back though and eventually re-gained the lead (23-22) on a Melissa Hansen (Colorado Springs, Colo.) attack error. After a subsequent timeout by the Pioneers, the Bears scored two more points to wrap up a 7-2 run that completed the come-from-behind 25-22 victory.

Tied 20-20 in a back-and-forth third set, NYIT tallied four unanswered points, paced by three Tina Stefanovic (Cacak, Serbia) kills, to set the stage for match point.

While the hosts committed a pair of unforced errors to bring LIU Post within 24-22, a kill from Brock ended the match. Brock provided nine kills on the evening for the Bears.

Freshman outside hitter Rachel Londot (Utica, Ohio) finished the contest with 10 kills and 10 digs for a double-double. Hansen (three block assists) and junior middle hitter Taryn McCullouch (Buena Park, Calif.) had seven kills apiece. Austin registered eight digs, three kills and three blocks (two solo, one assist). Freshman setter Giulia Genna (Civitella San Paolo, Italy) allocated 25 assists, while collecting nine digs and two block assists.

Head Coach Shellane Ogoshi and the Pioneers now return home to square off with Mercy College on Thursday (Nov. 12) in an East Coast Conference clash at the Pratt Recreation Center in Brookville. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
