Late Goal Dooms Women's Soccer at Bridgeport in NCAA Second Round

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (Nov. 15, 2015) - The fifth-seeded LIU Post women's soccer team saw its season come to a hearbreaking end Sunday in the second round of the 2015 NCAA Division II Championship, losing to No. 5 and top-seeded University of Bridgeport, 1-0, at Knights Field.

LIU Post (14-4-3) and Bridgeport (19-1-1) battled for most of the match. The Purple Knights held a slight edge in shots (3-2) at halftime. Two of their shots were on target and junior keeper Felicia Orderud (Gothenburg, Sweden) stopped both.

In the second half, the green and gold turned up the offense, getting off four shots, three of which were on goal. The Pioneers also earned three corner kicks in the final 45 minutes.

In the 51st minute, freshman forward/midfielder Angela Careddu (Flushing, N.Y.) sent a header on goal that Bridgeport's Jennifer Wendelius (Lidingo, Sweden) turned aside.

Then, in the 58th and 59th minutes, freshman forward Andrea Huntzinger (Stockholm, Sweden) and junior midfielder/back Katie Kingston (Wantagh, N.Y.) individually put shots on goal that Wendelius knocked down.

Orderud made three more saves throughout the second half, but with under a minute to go in regulation, UB's Ariana Weingrad (Hicksville, N.Y.) sent a long shot in that found the corner of the net.
