Women's Soccer Falls to Roberts in Overtime in ECC Semis, 3-2
Box Score ROCHESTER, N.Y. (Nov. 5, 2015) - On Thursday, the third-seeded LIU Post women's soccer team dropped a hard fought 3-2 decision in overtime to second-seeded Roberts Wesleyan College in the semifinal round of the 2015 East Coast Conference Championship in Rochester.
The Pioneers (14-3-2) found themselves ahead after one half of play, but couldn't hold onto the lead.
In the 35th minute, junior forward
Julia Backman (Morsil, Sweden) collected a loose ball in the box and scored to put the green and gold in front.
Senior keeper
Katelyn Phillips (Littleton, Colo.) made five saves in the opening frame.
In the second half, Roberts Wesleyan (12-4-2) tied the game in the 50th minute off a long shot that bounced over the head of Phillips.
About 20 minutes later, the Redhawks took their first lead of the contest.
In the 76th minute, senior forward
Susanne Vistnes (Randaberg, Norway) found space in the right side of the box and sent in the game-tying goal, forcing overtime.
Less than five minutes into the extra session, the Redhawks scored to come away with the 3-2 win.
