SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. (Feb. 16, 2015) - In its final dual meet of the 2014-15 campaign, the LIU Post wrestling team lost a close 22-19 decision to Shippensburg at Heiges Field House.

Despite falling behind 6-0 after forfeiting the opening bout, the Pioneers (4-15) came back to win the next two weight classes to take the lead. Freshman Joe Calderone (Huntington Station, N.Y.) collected two points in each period, en route to defeating Karl Lightner (Smethport, Pa.), 7-2, at 133. Junior Jesse Meaney (Toms River, N.J.) followed with a pin of Mike Hafer (Reading, Pa.) in 5:41 to give the green and gold a 9-6 edge.

The Raiders (7-13) answered though, taking the 149- and 157-lb. bouts, to go back in front. Cameron Throckmorton (Hanover, Pa.) earned a win via pinfall over Matt Langan (Wantagh, N.Y.) in 1:03, while Mike Springer (Norristown, Pa.) majored Jackson Mordente (Farmingville, N.Y.), 8-0, in their respective matches. That staked Shippensburg to a 16-9 advantage.

Later in the dual, the Raiders still led by a seven-point margin (19-12), until the Pioneers rallied to even the score. Freshman Ronnie King (Islip, N.Y.) got a takedown in each period, as he upended Marshall Hobbs (Felton, Del.), 7-2, at 184. Senior Chris DiIorio (Holtsville, N.Y.) then tied the match at 19-all, via a 10-2 major decision victory against Kyle Taylor (Boiling Springs, Pa.). That would cap LIU Post's scoring for the evening.

Head Coach Joe Patrovich and the Pioneers return to action next Friday (Feb. 27), when they take to the mat at Day One of the NCAA Division II Super Region I Tournament at 3 p.m.
