BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Feb. 7, 2015) - LIU Post women's basketball's version of the "Big 3" - senior guards
Chelsea Williams (Copiague, N.Y.) and
Ashley Castle (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and junior center
Nyasia Davis (Rahway, N.J.) put up a combined 58 points to send the Pioneers to a 76-62 win over East Coast Conference rival Dowling at the Pratt Recreation Center on Saturday afternoon.
Williams led all scorers with 25 points. Davis recorded her 11th double-double of the year with a 22-point, 10-rebound effort. Castle accumulated 22 points and six assists.
In the first half, the Pioneers (13-8, 9-4 ECC) used solid three-point shooting to distance themselves from the Golden Lions (4-16, 4-10 ECC). As a team, LIU Post was 9-of-21 (42.8 percent) from deep. Castle hit five, while Williams drained three and junior guard
Quanisha Ratley (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added one as well.
Later in the opening session, Davis drilled a jumper from just outside the paint, before Castle buried a trey to give the green and gold their largest lead at 16 (42-16). LIU Post eventually took a 44-32 lead into the break.
In the second half, the Pioneers took advantage of the zone defense of the Golden Lions and utilized Davis down low. The junior scored 14 second-half points and collected six boards to complete the double-double. Castle scored seven in the final 20 minutes, whereas Williams had six. In all, the Pioneers went 12-for-36 from three-point range for the game, tying a school record with 12 makes.
Junior forward
Kalinka DeRoche (New Haven, Conn.) pulled down seven rebounds and dished out three assists in the contest. Ratley contributed five points off the bench. LIU Post made the most of its second-chance opportunities, outscoring Dowling, 22-8.

Deirdre Moore and the Pioneers are back in action on Wednesday (Feb. 11), when they take on Mercy in an ECC battle. The opening tip is slated for 5 p.m. from Brookville.
