LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (Mar. 12, 2015) - On Wednesday night, the No. 8/8 LIU Post women's lacrosse team dispatched Bentley, 15-9, in non-conference action at DIsney's Wide World of Sports.

Exactly eight minutes into the contest, the Pioneers (3-1) scored the game's opening goal. Senior defender Kali Maxwell (Colorado Springs, Colo.) found red-shirt sophomore attacker Emily Delaney (Long Valley, N.J.) in transition. Delaney then beat Falcons' (2-2) sophomore cageminder Lauren Ochs (Rochester, N.Y.) to give LIU Post a 1-0 edge.

Less than a minute later, senior midfielder Jenna Pierro (Holbrook, N.Y.) split two of her defenders and found the back of the cage to extend the Pioneers' lead to 2-0.

Bentley twice managed to cut the two-goal deficit in half, but LIU Post wrapped up the period on a five-goal burst to bring an 8-2 advantage into halftime. Pierro had two goals and an assist in the run. Delaney added a goal and an assist. Sophomore attacker Stefani Vagelatos (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) and sophomore midfielder Connor Bird (Syosset, N.Y.) contributed tallies, as well.

The Falcons opened the latter half on a tear, netting the first four goals in a five-minute span, to close the gap to 8-6 with 22:22 remaining in regulation.

Later in the stanza, the Pioneers still led by two scores (9-7), until a 6-1 run by the green and gold over the last 16-plus minutes sealed the victory. Vagelatos notched three straight goals in the spurt for LIU Post. Pierro and sophomore defender/midfielder Cara Douglas (West Islip, N.Y.) each pitched in a free-position tally.

Pierro collected a game-high seven points (5 G, 2 A) in the win. She also scooped up three ground balls and three draws. Delaney registered five points (3 G, 2 A). Vagelatos finished with a game-best five goals. Bird won six draw controls. Junior defender Brittany Smith (Dix Hills, N.Y.) and junior attacker Jessica Marsh (Sayville, N.Y.) caused two turnovers apiece.

Head Coach Meghan McNamara and her LIU Post squad wrap up their Florida trip on Saturday (Mar. 14), when they take on No. 6/9 New Haven in Melbourne. The opening draw is slated for 3:30 p.m.
