HILLBURN, N.Y. (Mar. 28, 2015) - Junior attackman
Matty Beccaris (North Babylon, N.Y.) exploded for a career-high 10 points Saturday to lead the No. 7/6 LIU Post men's lacrosse team to a 19-5 win versus Dominican in East Coast Conference action at the Torne Valley Sports Complex.
Beccaris' eight goals were also a career-best for him. He also caused four turnovers in the victory, which improved the Pioneers to 9-1 overall and 4-0 in ECC play. It marks LIU Post's hottest start since 2011.
Tied 1-1 late in the first quarter, the green and gold erupted for nine of the final 11 goals in the half to bring a 10-3 advantage into the break. Beccaris accounted for five of those tallies. Senior attackman
Chris Caiazza (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) had two goals and two assists in the run. Freshman midfielder
Dylan Harned (Selden, N.Y.) notched his first collegiate goal.
In the third quarter, Beccaris picked up from where he left off. The North Babylon native tacked on two more goals to his resume and earned an assist on
Ryan Slane's (North Babylon, N.Y.) tally at the 11:31 mark.
That proved to be all the Pioneers needed, as the visitors built as much a 17-3 cushion with 4:51 left in the third period.
Caiazza finished with six points (3 G, 3 A) on the afternoon. Harned added a three-point showing (2 G, 1 A) off the bench. Junior attackman/midfielder
James Roselle (Huntington Station, N.Y.) netted two goals. Slane and junior attackman
Matt Bellando (Miami, Fla.) chipped in a goal and an assist apiece. Bellando amassed six ground balls and two caused turnovers, as well.
Senior defenseman
Matt Scalera (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) scooped up nine ground balls and caused four turnovers. Fellow senior defenseman
Dan Jeannotte (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) won 14-of-19 (73.6 percent) faceoffs, in addition to collecting nine ground balls.
Between the pipes, junior goalie
Adam Winne (Ridgefield, Conn.) and senior cageminder
James Doherty (Deer Park, N.Y.) each made six saves for LIU Post. Freshman Matthew Sandelier (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) turned aside 15 shots for Dominican (1-6, 0-2 ECC).
Head Coach
