BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Mar. 30, 2015) - On Monday, the LIU Post baseball team took the series finale from Molloy, 9-2, as the offense broke out for 10 hits to earn its second-straight East Coast Conference win of the season.
The Pioneers (8-6, 6-2 ECC) got another strong pitching performance from sophomore
Dan Jagiello (West Islip, N.Y.). The righty turned in 8.0 innings of nine-hit, two-run, eight-strikeout ball.
The green and gold got off to a quick start, going up 1-0 in the bottom of the first. Sophomore catcher
Thomas Asbaty (Randolph, N.J.) reached on a fielder's choice, and a throwing error allowed graduate outfielder
Vinny Iacono (Nesconset, N.Y.) to score.
Then, in the fourth, sophomore outfielder
Kenny Daley (Glenwood Landing, N.Y.) hit a two-RBI double to right and Iacono followed with a two-run single, which widened the Pioneer lead to 5-0.
Molloy (9-11, 3-5 ECC) got on the board in the fifth, but LIU Post would add four in the seventh to seal it. Daley drove in two runs with a single through the right side of the infield, before Iacono ripped a double to right-center that scored a run. Red-shirt senior infielder
Anthony Brunetti (Bayville, N.Y.) added a sacrifice fly to cap the scoring.
Freshman pitcher
Vinny Ruggiero (Plainview, N.Y.) worked a perfect ninth in relief.
Iacono finished 4-for-5 with three RBIs. Daley went 2-for-4 with four RBIs and two runs scored. Red-shirt senior outfielder
Rich Maccarone (Glen Cove, N.Y.) added two hits and two runs scored.
Head Coach
