Box Score SYRACUSE, N.Y. (Mar. 7, 2015) - Freshman goalie
Olivia Kirk (Farmingdale, N.Y.) made a game-high 12 saves in her first collegiate start on Sunday, but the No. 4 LIU Post women's lacrosse team fell by a score of 9-6 to seventh-ranked Le Moyne in non-conference action at Ted Grant Field.
Down 4-1 late in the first half, the Pioneers (2-1) recorded two tallies in the last 4:30 to cut the deficit to a one-goal game. Senior midfielder
Jenna Pierro (Holbrook, N.Y.) scored on an unassisted effort, while sophomore defender/midfielder
Cara Douglas (West Islip, N.Y.) found the back of the cage, off a feed from
Emily Delaney (Long Valley, N.J.).
Yet, the Dolphins (3-0), who owned a 26-17 advantage in shots and a 19-16 edge in ground balls, carried a two-goal cushion into the break. Junior attacker Erica Geremia (Camillus, N.Y.) struck the netting on a free-position shot with three seconds left before halftime.
In the latter session, the squads traded two goals apiece over the first 10 minutes of the period. Le Moyne then got unassisted tallies from Geremia and Claire Monnat (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) to widen its lead to 9-5 at the 13:15 mark.
Pierro attempted to start a comeback for LIU Post, as she closed the gap to 9-6 on a free-position goal with 7:14 remaining, but that was the closest the Pioneers came.
Douglas finished with two goals, alongside four ground balls and two caused turnovers. Pierro added two goals, as well. Senior defender
Kali Maxwell (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and sophomore midfielder
Connor Bird (Syosset, N.Y.) each won four draws. As a team, the green and gold scooped up 11 draw controls to Le Moyne's five.
Head Coach
Meghan McNamara and the Pioneers return to action Thursday (Mar. 12), when they face non-conference foe Bentley at Walt Disney World's Wide World of Sports in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. The opening draw is scheduled for 7 p.m.
