BROOKHAVEN, N.Y. (Apr. 11, 2015) - Behind the bat of freshman 
Lou Doria (Wantagh, N.Y.) and the arm of sophomore 
Jake DeCarli (Higganum, Conn.), the LIU Post baseball team took the East Coast Conference series opener from Dowling, 7-2, at the Golden Lions Field in Brookhaven.
The Pioneers (10-9, 8-5 ECC) fell behind 2-0 early after Dowling (16-6, 6-3 ECC) scored a pair in the bottom of the third. But DeCarli settled down after that.
In the sixth, Doria doubled to right, scoring junior first baseman 
David Groeneveld (Centereach, N.Y.). Then, after senior 
Angel Vidal (Brooklyn, N.Y.) walked to load the bases, senior shortstop 
Rick Alessi (St. James, N.Y.) drove home junior 
Matt Bowers (Staten Island, N.Y.) to tie it at 2-all. Freshman outfielder 
Rob Andreoli (North Wantagh, N.Y.) followed with a two-run single that plated Doria and Vidal to make it 4-2 LIU Post. The Pioneers would tack on another run to make it 5-2 after six.
In the seventh, Doria crushed his second homer of the season, making it 6-2. Then, in the eighth, sophomore catcher 
Thomas Asbaty (Randolph, N.J.) singled through the right side of the infield, scoring sophomore outfielder 
Kenny Daley (Glenwood Landing, N.Y.) to cap the scoring for the Pioneers.
DeCarli threw 7.2 innings of two-run ball. The righty scattered five hits and struck out four to earn his fourth win of the year. Junior 
Dillon Burke (Plainview, N.Y.) was perfect with two strikeouts in his 1.1 innings in relief.
Doria picked up his first three-hit game, going 3-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Daley was 2-for-5 with a run scored, while Asbaty went 2-for-5 with a pair of RBIs.

Mike Gaffney and the Pioneers resume their four-game set with Dowling on Sunday (Apr. 12) with a doubleheader at the LIU Post Baseball Field in Brookville. The first pitch of the opener is set for 1 p.m.
