BROOKHAVEN, N.Y. (Apr. 11, 2015) - Behind the bat of freshman
Lou Doria (Wantagh, N.Y.) and the arm of sophomore
Jake DeCarli (Higganum, Conn.), the LIU Post baseball team took the East Coast Conference series opener from Dowling, 7-2, at the Golden Lions Field in Brookhaven.
The Pioneers (10-9, 8-5 ECC) fell behind 2-0 early after Dowling (16-6, 6-3 ECC) scored a pair in the bottom of the third. But DeCarli settled down after that.
In the sixth, Doria doubled to right, scoring junior first baseman
David Groeneveld (Centereach, N.Y.). Then, after senior
Angel Vidal (Brooklyn, N.Y.) walked to load the bases, senior shortstop
Rick Alessi (St. James, N.Y.) drove home junior
Matt Bowers (Staten Island, N.Y.) to tie it at 2-all. Freshman outfielder
Rob Andreoli (North Wantagh, N.Y.) followed with a two-run single that plated Doria and Vidal to make it 4-2 LIU Post. The Pioneers would tack on another run to make it 5-2 after six.
In the seventh, Doria crushed his second homer of the season, making it 6-2. Then, in the eighth, sophomore catcher
Thomas Asbaty (Randolph, N.J.) singled through the right side of the infield, scoring sophomore outfielder
Kenny Daley (Glenwood Landing, N.Y.) to cap the scoring for the Pioneers.
DeCarli threw 7.2 innings of two-run ball. The righty scattered five hits and struck out four to earn his fourth win of the year. Junior
Dillon Burke (Plainview, N.Y.) was perfect with two strikeouts in his 1.1 innings in relief.
Doria picked up his first three-hit game, going 3-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Daley was 2-for-5 with a run scored, while Asbaty went 2-for-5 with a pair of RBIs.
