Baseball Falls to Queens in Series Finale
BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Apr. 26, 2015) - On Sunday, the LIU Post baseball team dropped its East Coast Conference regular season finale, 7-2, to visiting Queens at the LIU Post Baseball Field in Brookville.
Despite getting out to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first, the Pioneers (17-14, 14-10 ECC) were blanked for the remaining eight innings by Queens' (10-21, 6-14 ECC) Brandon Burrell.
Sophomore pitcher
Dan Jagiello (West Islip, N.Y.) seemed to have it going early, but the Knights would break through in the fifth with two runs.
Then, in the sixth, Queens would score five times, making it 7-2.
Jagiello's day ended after 5.1 innings. The righty allowed seven runs (six earned) on four hits. He also walked two and hit three while striking out seven.
In relief, junior
Dillon Burke (Plainview, N.Y.) threw 2.1 innings, walking three and allowing two hits. Freshman
Vinny Ruggiero (Plainview, N.Y.) tossed 1.1 scoreless innings.
Graduate outfielder
Vinny Iacono (Nesconset, N.Y.) and junior first baseman
David Groeneveld (Centereach, N.Y.) led the offense with two hits apiece. Red-shirt senior
Anthony Brunetti (Bayville, N.Y.) and Groeneveld drove in the two LIU Post runs.

Mike Gaffney and the Pioneers return to action on Tuesday (Apr. 28) when they host American International in a non-conference battle at the LIU Post Baseball Field in Brookville. The first pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
