CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (Apr. 29, 2015) - LIU Post men's lacrosse junior cageminder
Adam Winne (Ridgefield, Conn.) has been selected as the East Coast Conference Goalkeeper of the Year, it was announced by the league on Monday.
Winne is the first goaltender, under the watch of Head Coach
John Jez (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.), to earn top goalie praise from the conference. He boasts a 13-2 record with a 7.57 goals-against average and a .561 save percentage, all of which lead the league. Winne has also recorded double-digit saves in seven of the Pioneers' 15 contests, including a season-high 16 stops at Adelphi on Mar. 9.
Winne was joined by five teammates on the All-East Coast Conference first-team. They were senior defensemen
Matt Scalera (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) and
Robbie Chiocco (Massapequa, N.Y.), senior midfielder
Connor Drost (Wading River, N.Y.) and junior attackmen
Matty Beccaris (North Babylon, N.Y.) and
Ryan Slane (North Babylon, N.Y.).
Scalera and Chiocco helped to pace a Pioneer defense that has limited opponents to the second-fewest goals against (121) and second-most caused turnovers (130) in the ECC. Scalera ranks in the Top-10 in the league in caused turnovers (3rd - 22) and ground balls (7th - 57), as well.
Additionally, two other members of LIU Post's defensive unit landed on the All-ECC roster. Senior defenseman
Justin Woodley (Bloomington, Minn.) and
Steve Gruse (New Fairfield, Conn.) garnered second-team and honorable mention accolades, respectively.
Drost presently ranks as the green and gold's third-leading scorer with 50 points (24 G, 26 A). His 26 helpers are seventh-best in the conference. Meanwhile, Beccaris, a two-time All-ECC first-team pick, spearheads the Pioneers in points (57). He places in the Top-10 on the league's statistical leaderboard in every offensive category.
Slane is an All-ECC first-team selection for the first time in his collegiate career. He currently has 21 goals and 27 assists for 48 points. Four of those tallies have come on the man-up.
Senior faceoff specialist
Dan Jeannotte (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) claimed All-ECC second-team recognition. Jeannotte has won 64.0 percent (176-of-275) of his draws on the season, which is the highest conversion rate since James Kozlakowski's 64.6 percent success clip in 2012. Furthermore, his 98 ground balls are second-most in the ECC.
Junior attackman
Matt Bellando (Miami, Fla.) and junior midfielder
Anthony Berardis (Mahopac, N.Y.) accompanied Gruse on the honorable mention squad. Bellando boasts the third-highest goal total (40) and eighth-highest scoring output (54 points) in the league. He also has a conference-best three shorthanded goals to his credit. Berardis, a two-time All-ECC Honorable Mention choice, has tallied 34 points (26 G, 8 A) in 15 games.
