Martin Headlines ECC Major Awards, Three Others Collect Honors
CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (Apr. 30, 2015) - After a stellar season, sophomore hurler
Ashley Martin (Long Beach, N.Y.) was tabbed East Coast Conference Pitcher of the Year, while three other Pioneers earned All-Conference accolades, as announced at the ECC Softball Championship on Thursday.
Martin, the three-time ECC Pitcher of the Week, helped the green and gold to a 28-13-1 regular season mark. Throughout the 2015 campaign, Martin owned a 14-3 record, with a 1.71 ERA, good for a second-place conference ranking. She also slotted second in the ECC for wins and saves, while standing third for batting average against. Martin amassed 93 whiffs through 126.2 innings pitched, commanding the circle and securing Pitcher of the Year as well as All-Conference First Team honors.
Also named to the ECC First Team is junior designated player
Paige Swantek (Smithtown, N.Y.). Through LIU Post's regular season competition, Swantek boasted a .305 batting average, good for second on her squad, with 40 hits, 12 doubles and eight dingers. Her .580 slugging percentage and .378 on-base percentage helped her to 30 RBIs with 76 total bases.
Seniors
Megan Salcido (Brawley, Calif.) and
Catherine Havens (Eastport, N.Y.) were selected to the All-Conference Second Team for their pitching and outfield performances, respectively. Havens started all 42 contests in right field for the Pioneers. Her team-leading .306 batting average saw 44 hits, 6 doubles, 4 triples and two home runs for 13 RBIs. Through the Pioneer campaign, Salcido clinched a 7-6 showing with a 2.57 ERA. She threw 90 innings and fanned a total of 58.
