MANCHESTER, N.H. (May 10, 2015) - The LIU Post softball team lost two extra-inning contests to Southern New Hampshire University, 2-1 and 3-2, respectively, in NCAA East II Regional competition on Sunday. The Pioneers conclude their season 32-17-1.
The Penmen (35-7) were on the board first, as a bases-loaded walk in the top of the fourth secured the Southern New Hampshire lead. SNHU held the advantage through the bottom of the seventh, until
Jaclyn Hahn (Bayport, N.Y.) doubled to left center with one out, and
Samantha Miller (East Meadow, N.Y.) helped her cross the plate with an RBI single to right. The 1-1 stalemate would be sent into extras and stand until the top of the tenth inning, when a solo Penmen blast secured the 2-1 victory and forced a Game Seven.
Sophomore
Ashley Martin (Long Beach, N.Y.) and junior
Isabella Corrao (Farmingdale, N.Y.) combined for a ten-inning showing on the mound. The pair whiffed seven and walked five.
Offense started early for the Penmen in Game Two of the East II Region Final, as a solo homer to left in the bottom of the first game them the initial lead, but the Pioneers answered in the top of the fifth, as another Miller RBI single tied the contest at one, and an
Aly Dzierzynski (Deer Park, N.Y.) single up the middle scored
Clare Travis (East Meadow, N.Y.), giving the green and gold a 2-1 advantage. A LIU Post miscue with a SNHU runner on second in the latter half of the fifth frame evened the score, and, once again, LIU Post and Southern New Hampshire battled through regulation into extra-inning competition. An error in the bottom of the ninth secured the 3-2 Penmen victory and their spot in the 2015 NCAA East Super Regional.
Senior
Megan Salcido (Brawley, Calif.) and Martin combined for a nine-inning effort in the circle. The pair struck out six and walked just two.
