Pierro, Hanifan to Play in IWLCA Division II North-South Game

GRAND LAKE, Colo. (May 28, 2015) - On Thursday, LIU Post women's lacrosse seniors Jenna Pierro (Holbrook, N.Y.) and Emily Hanifan (Hicksville, N.Y.) were selected to participate in the 2015 IWLCA Division II North-South All-Star Game on Saturday, June 6 at Cabrini College in Radnor, Pa.

Pierro and Hanifan were both lauded as IWLCA All-Americans and All-East Coast Conference first-team honorees for their stellar play on opposite sides of the field. Hanifan was dubbed the ECC Co-Defensive Player of the Year, as well.

Pierro was the Pioneers' top goal-scorer this season, tallying a career-high 55. She netted her 100th career goal in the team's 11-6 win over Dowling in the ECC Championship on May 2. Additionally, Pierro led the league with 55 ground balls.

Meanwhile, Hanifan spearheaded a defensive unit that limited opponents to the fifth-lowest goals-against average (5.58) in Division II. She also scooped up 27 ground balls and caused 17 turnovers in the process.

Pierro rounded out her four-year career at LIU Post with 136 points (102 G, 34 A), 107 draw controls and 94 ground balls. Hanifan collected 86 ground balls and forced 45 turnovers, in addition to scoring three goals, all of which came in 2015.

Pierro and Hanifan will be mentored by a familiar face. Meghan McNamara (East Northport, N.Y.) has been tabbed to coach the North squad, after leading the Pioneers to a 15-4 record and an East Coast Conference title.
