BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Jun. 23, 2015) - On Tuesday, Head Coach
Joe Patrovich revealed the addition of six new grapplers to the LIU Post wrestling program for the 2015-16 campaign.
T.J. Fabian (Wading River, N.Y.) joins the Pioneers after compiling a decorative career at Shoreham-Wading River High School. He was a four-time All-American and Eastern States Champion, a three-time All-County selection and a two-time All-State honoree. He was also a five-time League VI Champion and captured a NHSCA National Championship at the 126-lb. weight class in 2013.
Furthermore, Fabian, a Sacred Heart University and Nassau Community College transfer, was ranked in the Top-15 in the country by Intermat, USA Wrestling and FloWrestling. He has collected over 200 wins in the course of his career.
Monair McDonald (Roosevelt, N.Y.) excelled at the heavyweight discipline at Roosevelt High School. He won the 2015 Division 1 County Championship, after pinning his opponent in 4:37 at 285 lbs. In addition, McDonald was the top place-winner at a pair of tournaments (Lonnie Kittle, Glen Cove) and came in third at the Division 2 County Championships in 2013.
Pedro Rosales (Middletown, N.Y.) was a four-year starter at Middletown High School. He won the 2015 Section 9 Championship at 113 lbs. and placed as the runner-up for the title two years earlier. Rosales has 110 career wins to his credit, as well.
Daniel Arkow (Merrick, N.Y.) wrestled his way to an All-County spot at Bellmore-John F. Kennedy High School. He was a 170-lb. finalist at the 2015 Nassau County Championships and qualified for the New York State Tournament in the process. Moreover, Arkow won five straight bouts, one via major decision and another via sudden victory, to claim the 173-lb. title at the Ken Lesser Memorial "Summer Heat" Tournament in 2014.
Logan McGinn (Medford, N.Y.) grappled for the varsity wrestling team at Patchogue-Medford High School. He twice earned All-League I recognition and placed second at the Suffolk County League I Championships at 180 lbs. in 2015.
Lastly,
Joe Paterno (Kings Park, N.Y.) hails from Kings Park High School. He placed second at 126 lbs. at the 2015 Suffolk County League V Championships, in addition to winning his first-ever tournaments (Half Hollow Hills East, Sachem East) as a senior.
In its first year back as a varsity program since it was disbanded in 1988, the LIU Post wrestling team sent a pair of its grapplers to the NCAA Division II National Championships,
Joe Calderone (Huntington Station, N.Y.) and
Chris DiIorio (Holtsville, N.Y.) earned bids in their respective 133- and 197-lb. weight classes. Calderone was recognized as an All-American, following a sixth-place finish at the tournament, while DiIorio captured the NCAA Super Region I title.
Additionally, freshmen
James Louison (Hauppauge, N.Y.) and
Ronnie King (Islip, N.Y.) accompanied Calderone and DiIorio as All-Super Region I selections. Louison went 4-1 at the Super Region I Championship to place fifth, whereas King won a pair of wrestleback bouts to finish sixth.
