Dzierzynski Named Assistant Softball Coach

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Sept. 15, 2015) - Head Softball Coach Jamie Apicella announced Tuesday that former LIU Post standout catcher Aly Dzierzynski (Deer Park, N.Y.) has been brought aboard as an assistant coach for the 2016 campaign.

Dzierzynski put together one of the finest careers in Pioneer softball history. She batted a lifetime .346 (239-of-690) with 51 career home runs and 205 runs batted in. Dzierzynski also scored 139 runs and earned 98 walks in 229 games played.

Her 51 career homers broke the program mark set by former infielder Christie Softy from 2007-10. Dzierzynski shattered the record on Apr. 12, 2015 with a solo homer against Dowling College.

Dzierzynski was a three-time All-East Coast Conference, NFCA All-Region and Daktronics All-Region selection. In 2014, she garnered ECC, ECAC and Daktronics East Region Player of the Year distinction. Additionally, Dzierzynski was recognized as a First Team NFCA and Daktronics All-American, following a season in which she hit .438 with 25 homers and 77 RBIs.

"I am extremely excited to announce Aly Dzierzynski as the newest addition to an already very-talented coaching staff," stated Apicella. "Aly brings a wealth of knowledge of the game and a level of success that very few players have achieved both on a regional and national scale. For four years, she was a player who was an extension of the coaching staff with knowledge above and beyond her years. Aly will work side-by-side with Megan Butterworth developing our pitching and catching core. She will also help Carla Campagna with our offensive attack and assist myself with all defensive preparation. What makes her so valuable to this program is her loyalty, steadfast commitment and her passion for the game of softball. We are excited for the new energy that has been added to our coaching staff."

Dzierzynski, who received her bachelor's degree in Health Science from LIU Post in May 2015, currently resides in Deer Park, N.Y.
