BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Sept. 19, 2015) - The LIU Post men's and women's cross country teams ran to second-place finishes Saturday, as they hosted the seventh-annual LIU Post Invitational.
Sophomore
Talya Williams (Schenectady, N.Y.) and senior
Elizabeth Stirling (Wantagh, N.Y.) led the women's side with a pair of Top-5 times in the 5k. Williams placed second (18:11.87), while Stirling came in right behind her in third (18:54.65).
Williams' mark topped her own 2014 performance of 18:12 for the best 5k finish in program history. Not to be outdone, Stirling's time ranks sixth for a 5k in the Pioneer cross country annals.
Sophomore
Lauren Hoffman (Melville, N.Y.) finished just outside the Top-10, clocking an 11th-place time of 20:09.54. Graduate
Brooke Rozea (Syosset, N.Y.) ran a 21:30.08, which was good for 34th place. Freshman
Kaitie Schillaci (Albany, N.Y.) added a 49th-place showing (22:27.11).
For the men, LIU Post had its first five runners place in the Top-25, paced by sophomore
Ryan Gioe's
(Huntington Station, N.Y.) fourth-place mark of 26:35.92.
Red-shirt junior
Mike Scott (Fultonville, N.Y.) followed in sixth, crossing at 27:00.81. Sophomore
Thomas Flynn (Smithtown, N.Y.) and junior
Tyler McGarvey (Babylon, N.Y.) finished back-to-back, individually placing 12th (28:00.69) and 13th (28:04.69).
Lastly, red-shirt senior
Steven Arnone (Staten Island, N.Y.) capped off the scoring for the green and gold, running a 21st-place time of 28:54.01.
Head Coach
Pat Slevin and the Pioneers return to action on Friday, Oct. 9, when they compete at the Metropolitan Championships at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx. The meet is scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
