BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Sept. 19, 2015)
- The LIU Post men's and women's cross country teams ran to second-place finishes Saturday, as they hosted the seventh-annual LIU Post Invitational.

Sophomore Talya Williams (Schenectady, N.Y.) and senior Elizabeth Stirling (Wantagh, N.Y.) led the women's side with a pair of Top-5 times in the 5k. Williams placed second (18:11.87), while Stirling came in right behind her in third (18:54.65).

Williams' mark topped her own 2014 performance of 18:12 for the best 5k finish in program history. Not to be outdone, Stirling's time ranks sixth for a 5k in the Pioneer cross country annals.

Sophomore Lauren Hoffman (Melville, N.Y.) finished just outside the Top-10, clocking an 11th-place time of 20:09.54. Graduate Brooke Rozea (Syosset, N.Y.) ran a 21:30.08, which was good for 34th place. Freshman Kaitie Schillaci (Albany, N.Y.) added a 49th-place showing (22:27.11).

For the men, LIU Post had its first five runners place in the Top-25, paced by sophomore Ryan Gioe's (Huntington Station, N.Y.) fourth-place mark of 26:35.92.

Red-shirt junior Mike Scott (Fultonville, N.Y.) followed in sixth, crossing at 27:00.81. Sophomore Thomas Flynn (Smithtown, N.Y.) and junior Tyler McGarvey (Babylon, N.Y.) finished back-to-back, individually placing 12th (28:00.69) and 13th (28:04.69).

Lastly, red-shirt senior Steven Arnone (Staten Island, N.Y.) capped off the scoring for the green and gold, running a 21st-place time of 28:54.01.

Head Coach Pat Slevin and the Pioneers return to action on Friday, Oct. 9, when they compete at the Metropolitan Championships at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx. The meet is scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
