No. 8 Field Hockey Suffers 3-2 Overtime Loss at Assumption
Box Score WORCESTER, Mass. (Sept. 23, 2015) - The LIU Post field hockey team played its third overtime game of the 2015 season Wednesday, but dropped a 3-2 decision to Assumption College in a Northeast-10 Conference clash at Multi-Sport Stadium.
The loss sends the Pioneers to 3-2 overall and 1-1 in NE-10 action. They also now boast a mark of 1-2 in overtime contests.
Though Assumption (3-3, 2-0 ECC) broke through for the game's opening goal, LIU Post answered before halftime to head into the break tied at 1-1. After being stopped twice by Greyhounds' sophomore goaltender Bridget Boyle (Stow, Mass.), junior forward/midfielder
Melissa Quintanilla (Rome, N.Y.) stuffed in the equalizer with 9:10 left in the period.
In the second half, it didn't take long for the Pioneers to grab the lead. Just 1:17 into the session, sophomore forward
Kaycee Zelkovsky (Lambertville, N.J.) put back an
Emily Miller (Bridgewater, N.J.) rebound to give the green and gold a one-goal cushion.
However, Assumption fired right back, as sophomore forward Allison Sheahan (Higganum, Conn.), who also netted the game-winner, tallied the game-tying marker five minutes later off a penalty corner.
Following the then-go-ahead goal, LIU Post was limited to only two shots on goal for the remainder of the contest, both of which were stopped by Boyle.
Boyle finished with three saves for the Greyhounds. Junior goalie
Savanah Cummings (Midlothian, Va.) recorded three stops for the Pioneers.
Head Coach
Raenee Savin and her LIU Post squad are back in action Sunday (Sept. 27), when they host Stonehill College in NE-10 action at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium in Brookville, N.Y. The contest is slated for a noon start.
