FLUSHING, N.Y. (Sept. 26, 2015) - On Saturday, the 18th-ranked LIU Post men's soccer team used two late goals to come away with a 2-0 win over Queens in an East Coast Conference match at the QC Soccer Field.
The Pioneers (6-1-1, 3-0 ECC) and Knights (1-5, 1-2 ECC) played to a scoreless first half, with LIU Post outshooting Queens, 7-4. Senior keeper
Kevin LaBarbera (Miller Place, N.Y.) recorded one save in the first 45 minutes in his first action of the season.
During the second half, the game looked destined for overtime, until the visitors broke the stalemate. In the 82nd minute, junior forward
Johann Kristjansson (Reykjavik, Iceland) beat the Queens keeper to a loose ball and tapped in the game's first goal.
Then, in the 89th minute, freshman forward
Charlie Ledula (London, England) corralled a pass from senior forward
Per Forgaard (Stavanger, Norway) and found the left-side netting to double the Pioneers' lead..
LaBarbera made one save in the second half to secure his first win and clean sheet of 2015.
Overall, LIU Post held a 13-7 shot advantage and earned eight corners to Queens' three.
