FLUSHING, N.Y. (Sept. 26, 2015) - The LIU Post women's soccer team tied Queens College, 1-1, in an East Coast Conference battle Saturday at the QC Soccer Field.
It didn't take long for the Pioneers (6-1-1, 1-0-1 ECC) to break through. Off a free kick, senior forward
Susanne Vistnes (Randaberg, Norway) fired a shot into the right-side netting to give LIU Post a 1-0 lead just 9:09 into the contest.
The tally was the 60th of Vistnes' career, making her the program's top career goal-scorer. She surpassed former standout
Tara Vokes, who netted 59 goals from 1999-2002.
The Knights (3-3-1, 1-1-1 ECC) tied the game right before halftime though. Senior back Monica Lupo (Centereach, N.Y.) found the back of the mesh with one second left on the clock.
In the latter stanza, LIU Post had four shots on goal, but Queens' Megan Deak (West Islip, N.Y.) stopped them all.
For the Pioneers, junior goalkeeper
Felicia Orderud (Gothenbug, Sweden) made two saves to send it to overtime.
In the extra session, neither team got a shot off in the first session, while Queens registered a shot in the second period.
Head Coach
Mark Dawson and the Pioneers return to action on Thursday (Oct. 1), when they host Nyack in a non-conference tilt at Pioneer Soccer Park in Brookville. The opening kick is slated for 3:30 p.m.
