KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Sept. 8, 2015) - On Tuesday, the National Soccer Coaches Association of America released its first regular-season Top-25 poll for Division II, and the LIU Post women's soccer team fell one spot to No. 22.
The Pioneers won their first two contests of the 2015 season, defeating Southern Connecticut State, 3-2, in overtime on Friday (Sept. 4), before downing American International, 2-1, on Sunday (Sept. 6) to wrap up their opening weekend.
In the green and gold's first match, freshman forward
Andrea Huntzinger (Stockholm, Sweden) notched her first collegiate goal in her first career contest, while senior forward
Susanne Vistnes (Randaberg, Norway) netted the game-winner in the extra session.
Against AIC, junior forward/midfielder
Julia Backman (Morsil, Sweden) scored both Pioneer goals in a come-from-behind victory. Between the pipes, senior keeper
Katelyn Phillips (Littleton, Colo.) made five first-half saves to keep LIU Post within striking distance.
Head Coach
Mark Dawson and the Pioneers return to action on Wednesday (Sept. 9), when they travel to North Andover, Mass. to take on Merrimack College in a non-conference tilt. The opening kick is slated for 4 p.m.
