Women's Basketball Falls to Daemen in ECC Play, 76-68
Box Score BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Jan. 15, 2016) - Despite a 20-point effort from senior forward
Nyasia Davis (Rahway, N.J.), the LIU Post women's basketball team fell to Daemen College, 76-68, in East Coast Conference action at the Pratt Recreation Center on Friday.
With the loss, LIU Post fell to 2-13 overall and 2-6 in ECC play, while Daemen improved to 3-10 and 1-6 in league contests.
The Pioneers got off to a slow start in the first quarter and found themselves without a field goal, until senior forward
Kalinka DeRoche (New Haven, Conn.) hit a lay-up midway through the first 10 minutes.
The green and gold would trail by as many as 11 points (18-7), but scored the quarter's final six points to enter the first intermission trailing 18-13.
In the second, the Wildcats extended their lead to 14 (37-23), and led by that margin going into halftime.
Throughout most of the third quarter, Daemen maintained a double-digit lead and eventually carried a nine-point cushion (52-43) into the game's final 10 minutes.
In the fourth, the Pioneers fought back to get within five (73-68), but Daemen hit a three-pointer with three seconds left to seal the win.
Junior forward
Melsha Messam (St. Albans, N.Y.) finished with 11 points off the bench. Senior guard
Quanisha Ratley (Brooklyn, N.Y.) had 10 points, to go along with Davis' team-high 20. DeRoche grabbed 12 rebounds and scored four points.

Deirdre Moore and the Pioneers return to the hardwood on Saturday (Jan. 16), when they host Roberts Wesleyan College in an ECC battle in Brookville. The opening tip is slated for 1:30 p.m.
