NASHUA, N.H. (Jan. 15, 2016) - On Friday afternoon, the LIU Post wrestling team went 1-1 at the Daniel Webster College Tri-Match, hosted at Mario Vagge Gymnasium in Nashua.

The Pioneers (7-10) dropped a 20-18 nailbiter to Roger Williams in the opener, before routing host Daniel Webster, 52-3, in the latter match.

LIU Post trailed 4-0 after the first bout, but the green and gold secured wins at the 133- and 141-lb. weight classes to go in front.

Sophomore Joe Calderone (Huntington Station, N.Y.) put the Pioneers ahead at 133 with a pin of Dan Roger (Londonderry, N.H.) in 3:32. Junior Vinny Turano (Wantagh, N.Y.) widened the gap at 141, besting Justin Cochran (Paramus, N.J.) by a slight 4-3 count. That gave LIU Post a 9-4 advantage.

Roger Williams (11-1) eventually re-took the lead (14-12) at the 174-lb. discipline, but the green and gold responded with consecutive victories via decision at 184 and 197 lbs. to go up 18-14. Sophomores Ronnie King (Islip, N.Y.) and Jake Horton (Medford, N.Y.) won by individual scores of 7-4 and 3-1.

The Pioneers were unable to hold on though, as Kyle Foster (Somers, Conn.) won via pinfall (4:44) at heavyweight to secure the victory for the Hawks.

Head Coach Joe Patrovich and the Pioneers return to the mat Thursday (Jan. 21), when they host their second-annual Armed Forces Day at the Pratt Recreation Center with a dual against American International College at 7 p.m.
