STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (Jan. 15, 2016) - The LIU Post men's and women's indoor track and field teams returned to action Friday at the Spartan Regional Invitational, hosted by St. Thomas Aquinas College at the Ocean Breeze Park Track and Field Athletic Complex.
Red-shirt junior
Mike Scott (Fultonville, N.Y.) paced the men's side with a pair of Top-5 finishes. He clocked a third-place 9:02.85 in the 3,000-meter run and a fourth-place
4:21.05 in the mile run. Red-shirt junior
Wayne Harris (Jamaica, N.Y.) sprinted to a 10th-place time of 7.25 in the preliminaries of the 60-meter dash.
Red-shirt freshman
Kasim Thomas (Bronx, N.Y.) and red-shirt sophomore
Kyle Ward (Elizabeth, N.J.) leapt to individual distances of 6.18 (20 feet, 3.5 inches) and 6.10 meters (20 feet, 1/4 inch) in the long jump. Those were good for 13th and 14th place, respectively. Junior
Devin Pettaway (Amityville, N.Y.) added a 12th-place finish of 12.36 meters
(40 feet, 6.75 inches) in the triple jump.
For the women, senior
Elizabeth Stirling (Wantagh, N.Y.) ran a second-place 10:41.59 in the 3,000, while sophomore
Talya Williams (Schenectady, N.Y.) clocked an eighth-place time of 2:26.93 in the 800-meter run.
Lastly, the 4 x 200-meter relay team of junior
Kristine Cuartas (Bay Shore, N.Y.), sophomores
Nicolette DeSouza (Stroudsburg, Pa.) and
Alyssa McDonald (New Rochelle, N.Y.) and freshman
Charlene Hickey (East Meadow, N.Y.) finished at 1:57.16.
The Pioneers are back at it on Saturday (Jan. 16), when they run at the St. Joseph's College Invitational at 9:30 a.m. at St. Anthony's High School in South Huntington.
