Freshman Joe Paterno (Kings Park, N.Y.) led off the match with a pin of Josef Smith in 6:37 at the 125-lb. weight class, staking the Pioneers (8-10) to a quick 6-0 advantage.

Two bouts later, junior Vinny Turano (Wantagh, N.Y.) teched Scott Coleman (Brooklyn, N.Y.), 18-2, at 141 lbs. to extend LIU Post's lead to 16-0.

In the latter half of the contest, the hosts had their four wins come either via major decision or pinfall. Sophomore Ed Ramirez, Jr. (Massapequa, N.Y.) and senior Juan Carlos Diaz (Plainview, N.Y.) earned back-to-back majors of Christopher Hunter (North Attleboro, Mass.) and Michael Schulze (Ehningen, Baden-Wuertteunberg) by respective 12-4 and 8-0 scores at 165 and 174 lbs.

Head Coach Joe Patrovich and his LIU Post squad return to the mat next Saturday (Jan. 30), when they compete in the USC Wildcat Open, hosted by Johnson and Wales University at 9:30 a.m. in Providence, R.I.
