Women's Basketball Upended By AIC in Non-Conference Contest
Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (Jan. 3, 2016) - On Sunday, the LIU Post women's basketball team dropped an 82-48 decision to American International College at Butova Gymnasium in Springfield.
The loss drops the Pioneers to 1-11, while the Yellow Jackets improved to 13-0.
In the first half, the green and gold kept it close and only trailed by seven (37-30) at halftime. Junior forward
Janaysia James (Perth Amboy, N.J.) led the charge in the first 20 minutes with eight points. Senior forward
Nyasia Davis (Rahway, N.J.) and freshman guard
Kyla Formey (Brooklyn, N.Y.) chipped in six points apiece.
American International pulled away in the third quarter, outscoring the Pioneers, 27-5. The Pioneers shot just 1-for-11 from the floor and 3-of-6 from the free-throw line.
In the final 10 minutes, Formey got hot, shooting 3-of-6 from the field, including 2-for-3 from three-point range. The freshman finished with 16 points on 6-of-13 shooting. She made four of her eight three-point shots, as well. Senior guard
Khea Gibbs (Norwalk, Conn.) added nine points off the bench.
Head Coach
Deirdre Moore and the Pioneers return to the hardwood on Wednesday (Jan. 6), when they head to Rockville Centre, N.Y. to take on Molloy College in an East Coast Conference battle. The opening tip is slated for 5 p.m.
