OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. (Oct. 29, 2016) - On Saturday, the No. 22 LIU Post women's soccer team closed out the 2016 regular season with a 3-0 blanking of East Coast Conference rival New York Institute of Technology at President's Stadium.

It is the seventh-consecutive time this season that the Pioneers (13-2-2, 6-1-1 ECC) have held their opponent off the scoreboard. Over its current 12-game unbeaten streak, LIU Post has outscored its opposition, 24-3.

In the first half, the Pioneers, who outshot the Bears (6-7, 3-5 ECC) by a 8-1 count in the period, drew first blood in the 29th minute. Junior midfielder Klara Berggren (Stockholm, Sweden) tallied her second goal in as many games to give the visitors a 1-0 advantage.

Then, in the latter session, the tandem of senior forward/midfielder Julia Backman (Morsil, Sweden) and junior back Kristen Breihof (Levittown, N.Y.) teamed up for a pair of goals to put the game away for good.

Off a pair of Breihof corner kicks, Backman netted back-to-back tallies in the 60th and 74th minutes. With those two markers, she now has four goals in her last three contests.

Between the pipes, sophomore goalie Hillevi Eklow (Väröbacka, Sweden) made two saves for LIU Post, which owned a commanding 19-6 advantage in shots in the contest. Sophomore keeper Jessie Sabal (Valley Stream, N.Y.) stopped six shots for NYIT.

Head Coach Mark Dawson and the Pioneers have clinched the No. 2 seed in next week's East Coast Conference Championship. They will host third-seeded Mercy College in a semifinal match-up on Wednesday (Nov. 2) at 1 p.m. at Pioneer Soccer Park in Brookville.
