CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (Oct. 31, 2016) - On Monday, LIU Post men's soccer senior goalkeeper Jesper Malmstrom (Linkopping, Sweden) was chosen as the East Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Week.

Malmstrom did not yield a goal in 135 minutes of work last week to help the Pioneers to their seventh ECC regular-season crown in the last eight years.

He made one save Wednesday (Oct. 26) in a 4-1 win over UDC, and followed that up with a game-high five-save outing in a 1-0 victory at NYIT on Saturday (Oct. 29).

In the 2016 regular season, Malmstrom led the league in wins (13), goals-against average (0.54), fewest goals allowed (7), save percentage (.829) and shutouts (6). His 0.54 GAA also ranks seventh amongst Division II netminders.

Malmstrom and the Pioneers have secured the No. 1 seed in the East Coast Conference Championship. They will host fourth-seeded St. Thomas Aquinas College on Thursday (Nov. 3) in a semifinal match-up at 1 p.m. at Pioneer Soccer Park in Brookville.
