Women's Basketball Drops 69-49 Decision to Adelphi

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Nov. 12, 2016) - The LIU Post women's basketball team came out on the short end of a 69-49 loss to Adelphi University Saturday in the 2016 ECC/NE-10 Challenge at the Pratt Recreation Center.

Freshman forward Mikaiya Moore (Amityville, N.Y.) had 15 points, five rebounds and three steals in the effort. Junior guard Naya Williams (New Rochelle, N.Y.) totaled seven rebounds, six assists and four points.

The Pioneers (0-2) led 11-10 midway through the first quarter, until a 15-4 run by the Panthers (1-1) gave the visitors a 25-15 lead. Senior forward Calli Balfour (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) accounted for seven points in the burst.

From there, Adelphi continued to build its lead. The Panthers outscored the Pioneers 18-4 in the second quarter to take a 43-19 advantage into the locker room.

In the latter 20 minutes of play, LIU Post shot a solid 43.3 percent (13-of-30) from the floor, but it was unable to break into Adelphi's large cushion.

Senior guard Kristen Olsen (Staten Island, N.Y.) finished with 10 points and two steals for the Pioneers. Sophomore forward Sasha Patterson (Brooklyn, N.Y.) had eight rebounds, two points and two assists. Senior guard Kylie Garrett (Mount Orab, Ohio) amassed six points, three rebounds and one assist.

Head Coach Deirdre Moore and her LIU Post squad return to the hardwood Wednesday (Nov. 16), when they battle Wilmington University in a non-conference tilt at the Pratt Recreation Center at 5 p.m.
