No. 1 Men's Soccer Falls to No. 7 Adelphi in NCAA Third Round, 4-0

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Nov. 17, 2016) - The No. 1 and top-seeded LIU Post men's soccer team lost a 4-0 decision to No. 7 and second-seeded Adelphi University in the third round of the 2016 NCAA Division II Championship Thursday at Pioneer Soccer Park.
It is the Pioneers' (18-1-1) first loss at home since Nov. 4, 2011, snapping a 43-game unbeaten streak.
The Panthers (19-1-1), who advance to Saturday's national quarterfinal against University of Charleston, struck for two first-half goals in a span of 4:30 to jump out to a 2-0 lead.
First, in the 13th minute, junior midfielder Federico De Oliveira (Kenilworth, N.J.) unleashed a shot from the top of the 18-yard box into the lower-right corner of the net to put Adelphi on the scoreboard.
Four minutes later, De Oliveira headed a ball towards the far post that senior midfielder/forward Alejandro Penzini (Caracas, Venezuela) finished into the mesh for a 2-0 advantage.
The Panthers eventually took a 3-0 edge into the break, after Florent Girardin (Neuchatel, Switzerland) put a header past LIU Post senior goalkeeper
Jesper Malmstrom (Linkopping, Sweden) in the 41st minute.
Malmstrom finished with a game-high five saves on the afternoon for the Pioneers. Senior netminder Spenser Powell (Attleboro, Mass.) stopped three shots for the Panthers.
