BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Nov. 30, 2016) - A 13-0 fourth-quarter run propelled the LIU Post women's basketball team to a 69-59 victory against East Coast Conference foe Daemen College Wednesday at the Pratt Recreation Center.
Tied 51-51 with under eight minutes to go in regulation, a
Kylie Garrett (Mount Orab, Ohio) fast-break lay-up ignited a 13-0 burst that gave the Pioneers (4-3, 2-0 ECC) a 64-51 advantage at the 3:50 mark. She later capped off the streak with a transition basket.
Earlier in the contest, the two teams were knotted at 41-all late in the third quarter, until a quick 6-0 spurt by the hosts put LIU Post in front 47-41 with 1:29 remaining. Sophomore forward
Sasha Patterson (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and sophomore guard
Shannon Doyle (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) bookended the run with lay-ups. Garrett added a pair of makes from the foul line.
However, Daemen (2-4, 0-1 ECC) rallied to even the score (51-51) in the opening minute of the fourth quarter, on a three-point play by junior guard Sarah Saba (Lancaster, N.Y.).
Doyle finished with a game-high-tying 15 points on 5-of-9 shooting. Garrett collected 14 points and five rebounds in 22 minutes off the bench. Patterson earned her first double-double (11 points, 18 rebounds) as a Pioneer. Senior forward
Janaysia James (Perth Amboy, N.J.) had 11 points, nine rebounds and two steals.
Head Coach
Deirdre Moore and her LIU Post squad continue their nine-game homestand Saturday (Dec. 3), when they welcome in American International College for a non-conference showdown at 1:30 p.m. at the Pratt Recreation Center in Brookville.
