CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (Nov. 7, 2016) - The East Coast Conference awarded its postseason men's soccer honors Monday, and LIU Post sophomore midfielder
Charlie Ledula (London, England) and junior back
David Arvidsson (Gothenburg, Sweden) were named the league's offensive and defensive player of the year, respectively.
Ledula ranks at the top of the league in nearly every offensive category. A three-time ECC Offensive Player of the Week, Ledula currently paces the conference in goals (18), points (42) and game-winning goals (8).
He has landed on the scoresheet in 14 of the Pioneers' 18 games this season. Additionally, Ledula's eight game-winners are third-most in Division II.
Meanwhile, Arvidsson has led a defensive unit that has limited opponents to a stingy 0.60 goals-against average. That mark ranks sixth-lowest amongst the nation's leaders.
Red-shirt junior midfielder
Erik Berthagen (Gothenburg, Sweden) and junior midfielder
Harry Pearse (London, England) joined Ledula and Arvidsson on the All-ECC first-team roster.
In addition to assisting the Pioneers in holding the opposition to an ECC-low 11 goals, Berthagen added two goals to his 2016 resume. One of those tallies was the game-tying goal in a 3-3 draw at Mercy on Oct. 8.
Senior goalkeeper
Jesper Malmstrom (Linkopping, Sweden), senior forward
Jason Lampkin (Hawardon, Wales, United Kingdom) and junior back
Johan Mauritzson (Halmstad, Sweden) make up the green and gold's representation on the All-ECC Second Team.
Between the pipes, Malmstrom owns a league-leading 15-0-1 record with an ECC-best 0.48 GAA and .841 save percentage, both of which presently rank in the Top-5 in Division II. His seven goals allowed are also the fewest in the conference.
Lampkin ranks third on the team in scoring with 16 points (four goals, eight assists). He has registered at least one point in 10 of the 13 contests he has appeared in.
Mauritzson has aided the Pioneer defense in keeping the opposition off the scoreboard in 10 matches this season. He has two goals to his credit in 2016, as well.
Graduate midfielder
Alex Billington (Preston, England) and sophomore back/midfielder
Nico Kjaer Andersen (Odense, Denmark) landed on the All-ECC Third Team.
In 16 games, Billington has tallied two goals and an assist for five points, while Andersen has collected two goals and 10 assists for 14 points. Andersen's 10 helpers are the second-most in the conference.
