NEWBERRY, S.C. (Feb. 10, 2016) - The LIU Post wrestling team has remained eighth in Wednesday's D2Wrestle.com Super Region I Poll.
The Pioneers are coming off a strong showing at the USC Wildcat Open on Jan. 30. Sophomore
Joe Calderone (Huntington Station, N.Y.) and freshman
T.J. Fabian (Wading River, N.Y.) led the way with individual first-place finishes at 133 and 149 lbs. Eight other grapplers placed in the Top-6 for the green and gold.
Calderone and junior
Vinny Turano (Wantagh, N.Y.) were third in the 133- and 141-lb. rankings, respectively. Calderone, who has only lost once since the New Year, boasts a 23-8 record, including a 13-5 mark in duals. Meanwhile, Turano has reeled off 12 straight victories, dating back to Dec. 4. He currently sports an overall mark of 18-4 (13-1 in duals).
Sophomore
Ronnie King (Islip, N.Y.) stood pat in sixth at 184 lbs. He finished second in his weight class at the USC Wildcat Open, besting two of his opponents via decision and one via pinfall. King has now won six of his last seven matches, and sits at a record of 16-7 on the season.
