CLERMONT, Fla. (Mar. 12, 2016) - The LIU Post softball team wrapped up its Florida trip Saturday afternoon with a pair of losses to non-regional foes, falling to Minot State University in eight innings, 3-0, and Saginaw Valley State University, 4-0, at the PFX Spring Games at the National Training Center.

Game #1: LIU Post 0, Minot St. 3 - F/8
In the opener, the Pioneers and Beavers (8-7) were tangled in a pitcher's duel, as junior pitchers Ashley Martin (Long Beach, N.Y.) and Alyssa Cornejo (Riverside, Calif.) were brilliant in the circle.

Through seven frames, Martin had tossed a four-hit shutout with six strikeouts. She did not walk a single batter in the contest.

In extra innings, Minot State broke through, plating three runs in its half of the eighth. Two of the runs came on an RBI groundout by junior Rachel Burdette (Temecula, Calif.).

Prior to extras, LIU Post had a chance to win the game in the seventh. After sacrificing sophomore pinch-runner Jaclyn Hahn (Bayport, N.Y.) into scoring position with two out, sophomore pinch-hitter Emily DeVito (Preston, Conn.) struck out to end the threat.

Game #2: LIU Post 0, Saginaw Valley St. 4
During the nightcap, the Cardinals (10-4) jumped out in front early and never looked back.

Following a first-inning RBI single to take the lead, senior Jessica Wood (Grandville, Mich.) drilled a three-run homer to center in the second inning, widening Saginaw Valley State's advantage to 4-0.

The Pioneers (6-4) were only able to muster three hits against senior Sarah Appold (Bay City, Mich.), who tossed a complete-game three-hit, two-walk shutout.

Freshman pitcher Hannah Olshevski (Robbinsville, N.J.) was tagged with her first loss of the year in the decision. She allowed six hits and four runs (three earned) in six innings of work.

Head Coach Jamie Apicella and his LIU Post squad now return to Long Island, where they will face Adelphi University in a doubleheader on Thursday (Mar. 17) in Garden City, N.Y. at 1:30 p.m.
