(Mar. 15, 2016) - Playing on its home field for the first time in 2016, the LIU Post baseball field lost to American International College, 7-2, in a non-conference contest at the LIU Post Baseball Field in Brookville.The Pioneers (6-8) and Yellow Jackets (4-8) both got off to quick starts, as both teams scored a pair of runs in the first inning.After AIC got on the board in its half of the opening frame, LIU Post quickly responded.With two outs, junior catcher Thomas Asbaty (Randolph, N.J.) drew a walk and then stole second. Junior designated hitter Kyle Fagan (Wantagh, N.Y.) followed with an RBI single. Sophomore first baseman Lou Doria (Wantagh, N.Y.) later singled home Fagan to tie it.In the top of the second, the Yellow Jackets scored on a throwing error to take a 3-2 lead.The next inning, AIC's first baseman Chris Starcun led off with a home run to right to give his team a 4-2 advantage.From there, both teams traded zeros, until the Yellow Jackets broke free for three runs in the top of the ninth.Junior starting pitcher Jake DeCarli (Higganum, Conn.) lasted four innings and allowed four runs (three earned). Red-shirt freshman Robert Paccione (Commack, N.Y.) threw 4.1 innings in relief and was charged with three runs (two earned), while striking out three. Offensively, freshman right fielder Dave Brehm (Bohemia, N.Y.) collected two of the six Pioneer hits. Head Coach Mike Gaffney and the Pioneers return to the diamond Thursday (Mar. 17), when they host Bloomfield College in a non-conference tilt.
