LAFAYETTE HILL, Pa. (Mar. 19, 2016) - On Saturday, the No. 8/9 LIU Post men's lacrosse team lost to Chestnut Hill College, 14-10, in an East Coast Conference tilt at Plymouth Whitemarsh Stadium.

The Pioneers (4-3, 2-1 ECC) twice rallied from two-goal deficits in the opening half. Senior attackman/midfielder Ryan Slane (North Babylon, N.Y.) scored back-to-back goals in the first quarter to tie the game at 3-3, while senior midfielder Anthony Berardis (Mahopac, N.Y.) and senior attackman Matt Bellando (Miami, Fla.) netted consecutive tallies in the second quarter, evening the score at 6-all.

Trailing 9-6 in the final seconds before halftime, senior attackman Matty Beccaris (North Babylon, N.Y.) found the back of the cage at the eight-second mark to close the gap to 9-7 at the break.

Then, in the third quarter, an unassisted tally by Berardis, who recorded a game-high-tying three goals in the contest, just 1:23 into the period made it a one-score game (9-8).

However, the Griffins (1-5, 1-2 ECC) struck for five unanswered goals to extend their lead to 14-8 late in the fourth quarter, putting the decision out of reach.

Like Berardis, Slane notched three goals and caused one turnover. Beccaris had two goals and an assist for three points. Freshman attackman/midfielder Thomas Liantonio (Miller Place, N.Y.) chipped in a goal and an assist. Junior midfielder Anthony Galeotafiore (Wantagh, N.Y.) won 16-of-25 (64.0 percent) faceoffs and 10 ground balls.

Between the pipes, junior goalie Matthew Liantonio (Miller Place, N.Y.) posted his third double-digit save performance of the year, making a game-best 10 stops.

Head Coach John Jez and his LIU Post squad are back in action Thursday (Mar. 24), when they return home to square off with Dominican College in an ECC clash at 3 p.m. at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium in Brookville, N.Y.
