BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Apr. 11, 2016) - On Monday, the LIU Post baseball team salvaged the final game of a four-game set with Dowling College, winning by a 15-7 count at the LIU Post Baseball Field in Brookville.

The Pioneers (11-17, 3-9 ECC) wasted no time, scoring four runs in their half of the first inning.

With two outs in the bottom of the first, junior designated hitter Kyle Fagan (Wantagh, N.Y.) singled up the middle, scoring a pair of runs. Following a walk, sophomore shortstop Joe Spitaleri (Levittown, N.Y.) drove in two more with a single of his own.

The green and gold then added a run in the second and broke out for six runs in the third.

Senior second baseman Matt Bowers (Staten Island, N.Y.), sophomore center fielder Rob Andreoli (North Wantagh, N.Y.), freshman right fielder Dave Brehm (Bohemia, N.Y.), senior first baseman David Groeneveld (Centereach, N.Y.) and junior catcher Thomas Asbaty (Randolph, N.J.) all had RBIs in the inning. Groeneveld had the big knock of the frame, driving in a pair with a double.

Junior pitcher Dan Jagiello (West Islip, N.Y.) cruised through the first four innings, keeping the Golden Lions (11-15, 5-3 ECC) hitless. The visitors broke through for a run in the top of the seventh, but the Pioneers answered with four of their own in the bottom of the inning.

After Bowers produced a run with a groundout, Groeneveld belted a three-run homer to left, bringing in Brehm and Andreoli.

Dowling would score five in the eighth and one in the ninth, but pitcher Brian Tinney (Farmingdale, N.Y.) closed the door to seal the win.

Groeneveld had a career day, finishing 4-for-5 with six RBIs and three runs scored. Andreoli, Asbaty, Fagan and Spitaleri all had multi-hit games.

Jagiello threw seven strong innings, allowing one earned run on four hits. The righty struck out six and walked two.

The Pioneers return to action on Tuesday (Apr. 12), when they take on Concordia College in a non-conference game in Bronxville. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
