Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WEST HAVEN, Conn. (Apr. 16, 2016) - On Saturday, the LIU Post baseball team dropped both ends of an East Coast Conference doubleheader to University of Bridgeport, 6-4 and 8-1, in West Haven.

The Pioneers (12-19, 4-11 ECC) found themselves down early, as the Purple Knights (17-11-1, 10-5 ECC) scored two two-out runs in the bottom of the first off starter Dan Jagiello (West Islip, N.Y.).

LIU Post would get on the board in the third when sophomore center fielder Rob Andreoli (North Wantagh, N.Y.) singled home senior second baseman Matt Bowers (Staten Island, N.Y.).

The Purple Knights tacked on a run in the fifth and three in the sixth to take a 6-1 lead into the seventh.

That inning, Bowers plated junior left fielder Kenny Daley (Glenwood Landing, N.Y.) with a single, making it 6-2.

Sophomore pitcher Dave Anholzer (West Islip, N.Y.) kept Bridgeport off the board in the seventh and eighth, giving the Pioneers a chance in the ninth.

With runners on the corners and one out, Bowers drove in freshman right fielder Dave Brehm (Bohemia, N.Y.) to cut the deficit to 6-3. After freshman third baseman Jimmy Mendyk (Massapequa, N.Y.) reached with an infield single, Andreoli singled home a run, making it 6-4, but the rally would fall short.

Jagiello allowed six runs (five earned) over 5.2 innings. Andreoli and Bowers both had two-hit, two-RBI games.

It was more of the same in the night cap, as the Purple Knights scored two in the first off starter Joey Arena (Yorktown, N.Y.).

Again, the Pioneers got on the board in the third when Andreoli drove in a run to make it 2-1.

Bridgeport would go on to score four in the bottom of the fourth and two in the bottom of the fifth, to take an 8-1 lead.

Ridge Ackerman set the Pioneers down in order in the sixth and seventh to seal it.

Arena allowed six runs (two earned) over four innings of work. Red-shirt senior Mike Curti (Oceanside, N.Y.) was touched up for two earned runs on three hits in an inning of relief. Graduate pitcher J.P. Lipovac (East Elmhurst, N.Y.) tossed a perfect inning out of the bullpen.

Head coach Mike Gaffney and the Pioneers wrap up their four-game set with Bridgeport on Sunday (Apr. 17). The two teams will square off at 1 p.m. at the LIU Post Baseball Field in Brookville, N.Y.
