CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (Apr. 28, 2016) - On Thursday, LIU Post softball freshmen
Hannah Olshevski (Robbinsville, N.J.) and
Julia Seader (Piscataway, N.J.) were individually tabbed as the East Coast Conference Pitcher and Rookie of the Year.
Olshevski, who also received All-ECC first-team honors, leads the league in wins with 20. She became the first 20-game victor for the Pioneers since
Liz Weber accomplished the feat in 2014. Olshevski also ranks second in the ECC in batting average against (.219) and third in earned-run average (1.81).
Olshevski, a two-time ECC Pitcher of the Week honoree, limited the opposition to two runs or fewer in 18 of her 23 regular-season appearances. Additionally, she has five complete-game shutouts to her credit in 2016.
Seader, an All-ECC first-team selection, currently boasts the league's fifth-highest batting average at .401. Over the course of 46 games, she has hit nine home runs and 36 RBIs, while compiling a .671 slugging and .462 on-base percentage.
Seader places amongst the Top-5 hitters in the conference in nine offensive statistical categories. She was named the ECC Rookie of the Week on Apr. 25, after batting .471 with five homers and 14 RBIs in a 10-game stretch.
LIU Post had a league-best four representatives on the All-ECC Second Team. They were senior third baseman
Maria Palmeri (Middle Village, N.Y.), senior designated player
Paige Swantek (Smithtown, N.Y.), junior second baseman
Kayla McCoy (Smithtown, N.Y.) and junior pitcher
Ashley Martin (Long Beach, N.Y.).
Palmeri has swung the bat at a career-high-tying .331 clip, and manned the hot corner to the tune of a league-leading 124 assists. Swantek is hitting .310 on the year, and has the seventh-most RBIs in the conference with 33. She is riding an 11-game hitting streak and has driven in multiple RBIs in three of her last five contests, as well.
McCoy moved over to second base in 2016, and is batting .284 with one home run and 11 RBIs. Her eight stolen bases in the regular season pace the green and gold and are third-most in the ECC.
Martin has pitched to the tune of a 14-7 record with a conference-best 1.65 ERA. Her .201 batting average against is also tops in the league. Furthermore, Martin has recorded the second-most strikeouts (130) and shutouts (7) in the ECC.
