Box Score

BROOKHAVEN, N.Y. (Apr. 8, 2016) - The LIU Post baseball team dropped an 11-4 decision to East Coast Conference foe Dowling College Friday at Golden Lions Field in Brookhaven.

The Pioneers (10-15, 2-7 ECC) got out to a quick start, taking a 2-0 lead in their half of the first inning. With two out, freshman right fielder Dave Brehm (Bohemia, N.Y.) singled through the right side of the infield, scoring sophomore center fielder Rob Andreoli (North Wantagh, N.Y.) and senior first baseman David Groeneveld (Centereach, N.Y.).

The Golden Lions (9-14, 3-2 ECC) scored a run of their own in the bottom of the inning.

Then, in the top of the second, back-to-back doubles from Androeli and sophomore left fielder James Cohan (Syosset, N.Y.) resulted in the green and gold taking a 3-1 lead.

Dowling cut the lead to 3-2 in the bottom of the fourth, but the Pioneers had an answer.

In the top of the fifth, freshman second baseman Sal Geraci (Bayport, N.Y.) singled to left, scoring junior catcher Thomas Asbaty (Randolph, N.J.) to give the Pioneers a 4-2 advantage.

Junior pitcher Jake DeCarli (Higganum, Conn.) kept the Golden Lions off the board in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings before giving way to the bullpen.

In the bottom of the eighth, Dowling produced nine runs on eight hits to take an 11-4 lead.

In the ninth, Groeneveld reached on an error to lead off the inning, but was quickly erased with a double play. Brehm filed out to end it.

DeCarli threw seven strong innings, allowing two earned runs on eight hits, Red-shirt freshman Robert Paccione (Commack, N.Y.) was handed the loss, after allowing five earned runs on four hits and a walk in two-thirds of an inning in relief.

Offensively, Andreoli and Brehm had three-hit games, Brehm also drove in a pair of runs. Cohan had two hits, as well.

The Pioneers and Golden Lions resume their four-game set with a doubleheader at the LIU Post Baseball Field in Brookville on Saturday (Apr. 9). First pitch for Game One is set for noon.
