Palmeri, Martin Earn CoSIDA Academic All-District Honors

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (May 6, 2016) - On Thursday, LIU Post senior third baseman Maria Palmeri (Middle Village, N.Y.) and junior pitcher Ashley Martin (Long Beach, N.Y.) were named to the College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-District Softball Team.

The CoSIDA Academic All-District teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances, both on the athletic field and in the classroom. They are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada.

Palmeri, who boasts a 3.96 cumulative grade-point average in Psychology and Criminal Justice, is batting .311 with two home runs and 25 RBIs. Additionally, she leads the East Coast Conference in the field with 134 assists. Palmeri's efforts landed her a spot on the All-ECC Second Team last week.

Meanwhile, Martin, a 3.99 GPA student in Sociology, has compiled a 16-8 record with 144 strikeouts and a 1.73 earned-run average in 2016. She currently paces all pitchers in the league in shutouts (8), ERA and batting average against (.203), and ranks second in complete games (22) and strikeouts. Martin was recognized to the All-ECC Second Team, as well.
