Wrestling Adds Five Grapplers to 2016-17 Signing Class

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Jun. 20, 2016) - The LIU Post wrestling team has officially signed five more wrestlers to its 2016-17 recruiting class, as announced by Head Coach Joe Patrovich on Monday morning.

The five grapplers, all of whom will enter as freshmen, hail from Long Island. They are Jackie Gold, Kyle BhojwaniBobby PeaseJesse Weiner and Dan McClure.

This group will join fellow freshman and highly-touted recruit Anthony Sparacio to round out Patrovich's list of newcomers. Sparacio was signed on Apr. 21.

Jackie Gold - 133/141 - Rocky Point High School
Gold amassed 124 career wins in his career at Rocky Point, in addition to placing second in the 132-lb. weight class at the 2016 Section XI Division I Championships. He earned the Suffolk County League V title at 126 lbs. in 2015, as well.

Patrovich on Gold: "Jackie will be one of the hardest workers on the team. He gets at it every time we see him."

Kyle Bhojwani - 149 - Holy Trinity High School
Bhojwani, who was ranked as high as No. 3 at 145 lbs. in the 2015-16 CHSAA rankings, won his bracket at the Valley Stream South High School Tournament and finished second in his weight class at the CHSAA State Championships.

Patrovich on Bhojwani: "Kyle will come in and compete for us right away at 149 lbs. He has tremendous skill on the mat and we look forward to seeing what he can do at the collegiate level."

Bobby Pease - 165/174 - Patchogue-Medford High School
Pease went 37-5 in his final year at Patchogue-Medford, and shattered the school's all-time career wins record in the process. He was also a five-time All-League selection and captured a League I title in 2016. Additionally, Pease won the consolation bracket at the Section XI Division I finals as a senior, en route to a third-place showing.

Patrovich on Pease: "Bobby will be counted upon to compete at the 165- and 174-lb. weight classes. He is a tough competitor, whose style is very exciting."

Jesse Weiner - 184 - East Meadow High School
Weiner, a two-time Nassau County Conference 1 Champion, helped East Meadow to a Conference 1B Championship in 2016. He posted 25 wins in his senior campaign and was a Nassau County Championships qualifier in his time with the Jets.

Patrovich on Weiner: "Jesse is a hard worker on the mat, who we expect to compete at a high level for us at 184 lbs."

Dan McClure - 184/197 - Westhampton Beach High School
McClure wrestled to a Suffolk County League V and Section XI Division I Championship at 182 lbs. for Westhampton Beach in 2015-16. Furthermore, McClure was crowned as the New York State Freestyle Junior Division Wrestling Champion and placed third in the Greco-Roman Championships.

Patrovich on McClure: "Dan's ceiling is extremely high. He will have an immediate impact for us as a freshman at 184."
